Boldenone Undecylenate: The Basics And The History
Boldenone Undecylenate may not be as recognizable when its full technical title is used, but this anabolic is actually one of the most popular ones used by bodybuilders and those looking to better their physique and strength.
This is because it normally goes by its more well known brand name of Equipoise, from its origins as a veterinary product, the same one that was commonly used by famous bodybuilders around the golden era of bodybuilding.
Structurally, this is a form of testosterone that’s been altered by chemists, applying a double carbon bond at the first carbon point. While this change doesn’t do much to modify the chemicals anabolic potency, it does cut its androgenic impact in half.
It also has a chemical delivery agent attached, which greatly lengthens its activity in the body. While most anabolics are relatively fast acting, the Undecylenate agent that is joined into Boldenone gives it a half-life of 9 days, meaning it will stay active in the body after administration for almost 3 weeks.
These changes to the chemical structure, and their resulting impact on the effect it has in the body means it has found a consistent place in the programs of many bodybuilders, and some athletes. These programs will be examined in detail below.
The lower androgen profile and long-lasting nature of Boldenone means it is commonly used for long periods of time, and in tandem with other anabolic products.
This is normally done in programs where the overall goal is to gradually accrue lean mass, hopefully with little additional gains in water retention and fat along the way.
However, it is also sometimes used in more severe mass gain programs, where the objective is to gain as much size as possible, even if this means an increase in fat and water retention.
In the former programs, it would normally be paired with moderate to long-lasting products that are also efficient in nature, like Durabolin, with minimal partial processing into estrogen (which would cause the above-mentioned fluid and fat retention and buildup).
Meanwhile, in the latter, it would often be paired with far more potent and numerous anabolics to boost size gain, even at the cost of such partial conversion, like high amounts of testosterone and Dianabol.
Usually, these programs would last from 12 weeks, all the way up to 6 months. Although, care should naturally be taken with more prolonged programs, as it can always increase the risk of side effects, as well as them becoming more permanent. The doses you’re taking should also be taken into account, which is why we also take a look at this aspect below, as well as how it is commonly taken.
The amount of Boldenone commonly taken depends on the user’s experience with anabolics, with more seasoned users taking higher doses. Meanwhile, gender plays a key role, with females advised to stay away from its use altogether due to its virilizing effects.
Nevertheless, common athletic and recreational doses of Boldenone varies from 200 to 1000 milligrams, which would be administered once per week through an intramuscular injection, usually in popular sites like the shoulder or the buttocks.
Females have also reported favorable outcomes when using 100 to 150 milligrams, despite the recommendations above. In either case, side effects should still be looked out for, which is why they are reviewed in the section below.
While different people will have different levels of sensitivity to Boldenone effects, both good and bad, commonly reported side effects of its use, particularly for aesthetic, competitive, or recreational purposes, would include:
- Reduction of the amount of endogenous testosterone produced, which may lead to complete cessation after prolonged or excessive use - This would necessitate the exogenous use of testosterone and Post Cycle Therapy to prevent problems from low levels
- Cardiovascular issues, such as arterial stiffening, enlarged heart size, and higher blood pressure and LDL cholesterol levels, which would increase the risk of a cardiac event
- Estrogen-mediated issues, while milder in nature, would include fat and fluid buildup in the body, as well as the risk of gynecomastia development
- Androgen-mediated issues, while less likely, are still possible, especially in women, and include bouts of oily skin and acne, accelerate balding in some, and virilizing effects in women
It should be noted that the management of the estrogen and androgen mediated effects is also possible with SERMs or Aromatase Inhibitors, and 5-alpha-reduces inhibitors, respectively.
